Tala bellowed. “Do you really think we should be having the talk? I’d rather she decided for herself whether or not to be secular.”

“It is that time. I was around her age when I was firm about not wanting to go to church. Young, but no longer young enough to be corrupted by our mother,” Athena insisted.

“I remember! It was the same month I asked her why she was so sure God would hear her prayer.”

“She got angry, but it was pure inquisitiveness on your part. With no hint of malice whatsoever.”

“I know, but now that I think about it, it’s rude to interrupt anyone,” she sighed, “during prayer or not.”

They parted having settled that Athena would later join them on their evening meal.

Athena: If you could speak to God, providing it exists, what would you ask him, it, or her?

Sofia: Well…

Tala: Feel free to ignore your aunt, honey.

Sofia: Uh… Well… I would ask why he or she plays favoritism. I heard God favors some people more than others. That’s not fair!
